Karuna Bhawan Birgunj (Care and Support Program for HIV infected people)
Karuna Bhawan care centre in Birgunj was established in 2006 with the intention of extending support to the HIV infected people who live in the interior places. These people were unaware of the treatment facilities and other support system also lacking proper information about this disease. The project covers mainly three districts - Parsa, Bara and Rautahut. These districts are close to the Indian border and people migrate to India for work. They come back with money as well as HIV virus. They transmit this disease to wife and children.
Project Objectives:
- Run Care Home to provide care and support to needy PLHA.
- Provide a sound environment for people living with HIV/AIDS for their well-being.
- Enhance the knowledge and capacities of the PLHA leading towards Positive Attitude.
- Disseminate positive and truthful information on HIV/AIDS in different communities.
- Empowering disadvantaged HIV infected and affected children through education.
The main aspects of the program are:

The accommodation will be for a period of one month and after that period the PLHAs will be sent back to their respective homes to continue home based treatment. The project also coordinates the center for CD4 count and other related tests.

Patients who live in remote places come to the centre for treatment where the doctor comes twice a week. A doctor – specialist in treating HIV visits the centre twice a week .
